I don't usually have much to say about football but holy moly! I have to give the Monday night Saints game against the Falcons 5 out of 5 beautiful golden butters. Coach Payton's funny little dance alone deserves 5 butters. Who dat?
Here's Chris Rose's take.

It's so sad when you have to write this on a to-do list:
'Throw the gun in the river by mama's house'
That's from the checklist found at Vince Marinello's FEMA trailor by police investigating the murder of his wife. So sad.

Good news about my favorite hyperactive songwriter, Stephen Merritt. Not only is he releasing an album with the Gothic Archies- The Tragic Treasury: Songs From a Series of Unfortunate Events, contributing songs to compilations with the 6ths and the Future Bible Heroes, but is also working on a new album with the Magnetic Fields coming out in Spring of next year. And if that is not enough, he will be on tour with the Gothic Archies in bookstores around the country to play songs from the Lemony Snicket books album mentioned above, starting in October. Whew.
Okay, so the Pope said something about Muslims being violent. In retaliation, a couple of Muslims in Somalia shot and killed an elderly nun who helped sick children. Ummmm, guys? If you don't want to be called 'violent', maybe you should stop killing people - especially innocent nuns devoting their lives to helping sick children. Just a thought.

Here is a video of Matt Lauer interviewing the President.
Wow. Who knew that one of the only journalists to ask the hard questions would be Matt Lauer of the Today show. Bush gets a little annoyed when Lauer points out what could be illegal activity that was approved by Bush - like secret prisons and torturing prisoners. But does water-boarding/continually putting a person's head under water really count as torture? Bush's excuse for not answering any questions about it is that the terrorists might somehow "adjust" to the methods- like they'll be suddenly able to sprout gills. He does remind us that all this is done to keep Americans safe. Yes, because the more people hate America, the safer we'll be? What a crazy.

Hollywoodland. This movie is about a detective trying to solve the case of the mysterious death of George Reeves- the guy who played Superman in the '50’s TV version. Adrian Brody plays the detective and Ben Affleck plays Jimmy Stewart…I mean George Reeves. I thought Affleck looked like a good choice to play Reeves, but was quickly reminded that no, Ben Affleck is not very good at actually “acting”. He did a decent impression of Jimmy Stewart however, who wasn’t actually a character in the movie.
So Superman shoots himself, or at least that is what everyone is told. Reeves' mother isn’t buying it and hires Brody’s character, PI Louis Simo to find out who did shoot him. The movie delves into Reeve’s life and Simo comes up with about three possible scenarios.
***SPOILER ALERT- But then goes back to the first one, that maybe he just killed himself. How could it end any other way? That’s what the real life ending is, and being based on a true story – don’t they have an obligation to somehow ‘keep it real’? Okay, not much of a spoiler but you see why the whole point of this whole movie is really lost on me. I think it would have been better if it were a biography on A&E and lasted only an hour.***
I thought the first half of the movie was pretty decent. But after a while, there were too many scenes that were just pointless and dragged on and on. Then there was some other story about PI Simo that I couldn't care less about. Just filler I guess. I was at the point where I just didn’t care who shot superman and I was thinking- ‘just end it so I can get up already!’ But because of the first half, the movie as a whole really wasn’t that bad. It just wasn’t good. It was like a plain ole' potato. See it if you’re absolutely needing to see something and there is nothing else worth watching. I’ll give it 2-7/16 out of 5 butters, just 1/16th short of recommending it. And I would have, if it hadn’t been so pointlessly long!

In case you've been away, here is a crazy news story for ex-New Orleanians. The people here should have heard about it already. Remember that guy, Vince Marinello? Well click on the link and see what he's been up to lately.
