I'm home!!! Back in New Orleans! The other residents are slowly returning to the Uptown area too. And we have a gas station! Funny thing is- there are so few people in the area, they don't look that busy. There are fallen trees everywhere, but at least they are no longer blocking the streets. Where I am, we have all the utility services back- except for drinkable water that is. Only problem is -the 6pm-8am curfew. How are businesses supposed to get running again when everyone has to be indoors at 6pm? At least Jefferson Parish's curfew was at 8pm, but 6? Oh well, I'm sure there are many who aren't following the curfew anyway. There are music shows, bars are open in certain locations, people just want to get together the way New Orleanians get together- at night over a drink. I want to go to Molly's.

I'm so happy for you, that you are back home.

I've just had a chance to read a couple of your posts.

I was glued to CNN and I thought Mayor Nagin and Police Chief Eddie Campus were real heroes. My heart went out to them.

I'm glad to read your take on the disaster, as a person going through it. You've validated a lot of my own thoughts.

Bush is so distant, so removed from everything.

But he could have been distant if only FEMA had been up to snuff.

That, apparently, is the real problem, as I understand it from reading articles and watching PBS. FEMA was gutted under this administration - with an eye to eliminating it - and put under incompetent leadership

Not that you have time or inclination but NOW has podcasts of its shows and the one last Friday had interviews with FEMA insiders.

One woman was quite distressed that they had not been able to do the job they were trained to do.

I've only been in New Orleans, in the French Quarter, once but it was magical.

It was a time of loss, of profound change for me. I was, emotionally, operating on about 3 cylinders (out of 8) but the place was so warm so beautiful, so happy and it gave me memories I'll always have.

I put up prayers for New Orleans and was stunned when the devastation hit.

But I think God helps those who help themselves and we, as a nation, did not help New Orleans as we should have in shoring up those levees.

We had enough warnings and predictions and time to act. It's a national failure for which you are suffering.

In any event, God bless you. I'll check back to see how things are going, if you don't mind.

Take good care,
