I personally don't care, but a couple of my friends who have more right-sided political views will not ever consider themselves as "middle class" even though financially speaking- they would fit quite nicely into that definition. I tried to explain to them while they are very "classy", by their income they would most probably be considered middle class- but they weren't having it. I think he should take the word "class" out of the rhetoric. Think about what that word could potentially mean. While it could mean this:

Main Entry: class
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: A division of persons or things by quality, rank, or grade.
Synonyms: bracket, grade, league, order, rank, tier

It could also Mean:

Main Entry: class
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: High style in quality, manner, or dress.
Synonyms: quality, refinement

See the problem?

Weird, weird, weird. On aol's newspage, there is a survey next to two videos. One with Obama comparing McCain's policy and his "change" mantra to putting lipstick on a pig. The next is McCain doing the same thing about Hillary's health care plan- comparing to it to putting lipstick on a pig.

What do you think of Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" comment?
He was out of line 51%
I don't have a problem with it 49%

What do you think of John McCain's "lipstick on a pig" comment?
I don't have a problem with it 73%
He was out of line 27%

Hmmmmm... biased much? It's funny though, this morning I heard that the McCain campaign was calling on Obama to apologize for his comments, as if he were calling Palin a pig. But in doing that, wasn't the McCain campaign insuating that Palin is a pig since Obama didn't even bring her up? As a former beauty contestant, I bet that would really mess with her and bring out her crazy side that she's shown during "troopergate".Maybe someone should start a blog called palinisapig.com or better yet, palinisfat.com and compare how fat she looks in each of her outfits, kind of like how the media talked about Hillary and whether or not she dressed "too sexy". I guess that would be sexist though, you think?

McCain picked a woman! Yay?!! She doesn't seem even close to being the most qualified of the men or women V.P. candidates...I thought Republicans were against Affirmative Action.Well good for her... if she is actually ready to be president. She was only in state government for less than 2 years. Honestly, it looks like he went for who had the best chops. Maybe FoxNews and their NILFs are having an effect on who Republicans want to watch in news and now in government. I've noticed the Press Secretaries have been getting progessively better looking. From Ari Fleisher & Scott McCellan, to Tony Snow and finally Dana Perino.
So I guess John McCain figured in order to pick up Hillary voters, he needed a woman. What about Kay Bailey Hutchinson? Not hot enough? While I don't agree with her on political issues, she's a lot more qualified than Miss Wasilla.

I think the McCain campaign has finally lost it. McCain has decided that Iran is such a threat to the United Stated that he is coming out with campaign ads to scare the bejeezus out of Americans, bells tolling and all. In an interview with Anderson Cooper, CNN's Congressional Correspondent, Jessica Yellin, pretty much pointed the finger at the corporate executives (at MSNBC, her former employer)for the poor coverage in the lead up to the war:

"When the lead-up to the war began, the press corps was under enormous pressure from corporate executives, frankly, to make sure that this was a war that was presented in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation and the president’s high approval ratings. And my own experience at the White House was that, the higher the president’s approval ratings, the more pressure I had from news executives — and I was not at this network at the time — but the more pressure I had from news executives to put on positive stories about the president."

<param name="movie" This happened in Uptown New Orleans:

THREE ARRESTED IN CHINESE SPY PLOT
This is my favorite line in the story, a neighbor talking about the 33 year old that was arrested:
"She seemed like a young girl," Joseph said. "The other day she had pink shades on. Come on, now. That's not someone you think is a spy."
This too from a Houma neighbor speaking about how they knew something wasn't quite right:

"Last year they suddenly put the Houma house on the market, asking $480,000, a high price for the older homes in the area. Then almost as quickly, Kuo said he changed his mind, a neighbor said, and began gutting the undamaged home down to the studs.
"He said he was changing his mind and was going to redo it," said the neighbor who withheld her name. "They were doing work late at night. Now I'm thinking it wasn't so normal.""
Hahaha. Working on your house at night raises some serious questions for the neighbors!!! I like that.
Then there's this from Kuo's Uptown neighbors:

"That made some of his Uptown neighbors almost defiant as they watched the FBI clean out the home. "I wish he'd gotten away with it," Michael Tubre said. "He was an ideal neighbor. And Jane was just an average nice lady." 'Daniel Day Lewis is going to show his "acting genius" again'. I don't know why but something about it made me think it would be pretentious as hell, even though I love director, Paul Thomas Anderson's previous movies, Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, and Boogie Nights. The last two movies I saw Daniel Day Lewis in were The Last Of The Mohicans and Gangs of New York, where he was okay but not "genius". Annoying maybe. Well it took me until about half-way through There Will Be Blood to find out what the big deal is. I admit- he's awesome. The story is about an oil guy (Daniel Plainview, Lewis' character) whose life is devoted to his oil business and somewhat to his boy. He goes to a town where he meets a young pastor, Eli Sunday, whom he makes a business deal with, provided Plainview will give him money for a new church. As it continues, the story slowly becomes more interesting and more intense until it ends in a bang. Daniel Day Lewis bugged the hell out of me for the first half hour or so until I got used to his awful, grating way of speaking. But Plainview's unlikable-ness was growing and making him actually a much more interesting character as the story continued. By the time the movie was over, I got it: Lewis is awesome. He'll win the Oscar, no doubt. Paul Dano as the pastor is good too but is completely overshadowed next to Lewis. The movie may also win the Oscar for best score but other than that- if it's up against No Country For Old Men, it will lose. No Country is just a better movie all around. This movie is a hard one to rate because it just took so long to become that good- but when it was, it was excellent. The ending gets 5 butters for sure but for the slow start I'll have to deduct a half of a butter, giving this movie 4 1/2 black gold, texas tea butterbits.

I don't think Fox wants Ron Paul to think he can be in the news just because he was in second place in the Nevada primary. It was all over the tellie for like 2 days- I'm sure now that she's won New Hampshire, people will be saying it's because she 'finally showed emotion' or that she duped everybody with crocodile tears to feel sorry for her or whatever. Who cares? The dudes cried too. Ole Mittens Romney cried on the campaign trail at least twice- and no one even flenched. I mean is it really big news that a woman who is under tremendous stress cried? Sadly, it is. And who cares if it's fake- she's a politician- they all lie!!! But I'm wondering if any other "more womanly" traits will be scrutinized because she is a woman. If she gets angry will that 'be a contrivance' or 'it's because she must be on her period' or 'must be menapause'. Since when is showing emotion a weakness? ... How far are they going to go back in time to fight old political battles? Really, the Civil War? I think we've just seen the beginning of the Ron Paul bashing in the media. That's fine with me- he is running for president, plus he's a little crazy on the right on some issues for my tastes. But he is my favorite among the republicans running which isn't saying much. I see this as an obvious move to make him look bad. But why? Maybe because Paul's been so outspoken against the Iraq War? Or maybe it's just a funny headline? They should have just said 'Ron Paul is for slavery', which is the more typical Rovian way to attack someone.
But they say nothing to explain why he "blasted" Lincoln although knowing his unfaltering position on state's rights, I have an idea. I guess it's his turn to get pummeled in the headlines, Huckabee is merely a pulp now. If you go to this online poll, he's leading among Republicans in every state but three. Of course he knows it'll get shot down so they'll negotiate down to $30, which is what he really wanted in the first place. Instead it's $70 billion dollars for an unpopular war down from $200 billion and the teenager is the president who doesn't know how to run a war.
This is what gets me the most:

Privately, Democrats say they have little choice but to give the president at least some war funding because Senate Republicans have vowed to block any final budget deal unless it has at least some of the war funding Bush has requested.

Yes, because blocking spending would only affect Democrats? Morons. Let them bluff, not producing a spending bill to give more money to this horrible war would only hurt the republicans blocking it. I realize it's because I've been getting accustomed to movies that require no thinking at all. But this one is different, it doesn't force feed you the plot but at times only hints at important plot developments. And forget about any of the typical emotionally manipulative musical scores- you hear what the character's hear and that's it. It was very violent but I think that it needed to be. It really makes you see what a heartless person the villain is. And many times the violence isn't onscreen, but you just know and your heart sinks.
The baddy is a guy named Anton Chigurh. He's really mean. His voice is amazingly deep which makes him just that much more creepy. The other main characters are played by Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones.
Here are the basics: Brolin's character Llewelyn Moss comes across a couple million dollars from a drug deal gone wrong. People are after him, most importantly Chigurh. And Sheriff Bell (TLJones) keeps finding the bodies of the people Chigurh kills on his way to find Llewelyn, whose name rhymes with Sue Ellen. Oh and it's directed by the Coen brothers which is all I needed to know. And it's probably better seeing in the theatre, so you should see it now! Even if you're a little queazy at the sight of blood or needles or both simultaneously. Get over it-its so good! I'm still playing scenes over in my mind trying to figure everything out. I think I'll have to see it again soon to answer some of the nagging questions I can't let rest. Because of this, No Country for Old Men gets the most butters the churn can possibly produce- 5 puzzling yet suspenseful butterballs.
And after you watch it you should go to the forum on IMDB to see all the wacky theories people have about this movie. Good stuff.

Sylvester Stallone is making a movie about Edgar Allen Poe. Yeah, he's doing this right after Rambo. I have a better idea, he should really write and direct a sequel to Over The Top or Cobra and leave the Poe story to someone a little more in tune with Poe's work like the obvious Tim Burton or any number of horror film makers. I'm just trying to figure out how Stallone is going to focus Viggo Mortensen's/Poe's muscular physique when fashions in that time were a bit more formal than the typical torn off sleeve look I'm so used to in Stallone movies.

Wow, with this car you can save money on gas by eating a lighter lunch!!! Very coo, but I wouldn't recommend it in most U.S. cities, especially Metairie, Louisiana where I happen to work. In Metairie, everyone seems to own a giant-size vehicle and it had just recently placed 3rd in the country for the number of tickets issued for running red lights. Its the scariest place for little cars you can imagine!!!

A curious bit of antiquity. Thank you "me", for pointing out to me that he's a wee lad of only 36 years old. Wow, who knew. If Wikipedia's right, he's crazy conservative, which worries me a little. My issues: He's against abortion without exceptions for the life of the mother. What a dick. Republicans for Environmental Protection gave him one of the worst ratings in Congress. Ass. And of course he's for the war in Iraq, purple finger and all. Whatever. But now that he will be governor, I don't think he will have power over any of these issues while as a U.S. Representative, he does. Yay!!! So I'm actually happy he got elected. That's all I needed to know. Joy Division's music alone deserves 5 heart twisting, arm flailing butters. On top of that, its a movie of one of my favorite genres- 'the musician who died too young', I HAD to see it. Its a weakness. Like Corn Nuts. I even liked The Buddy Holly Story where Buddy Holly was inexplicably played by Gary Busey of all people. Loved it. La Bamba? Sweet Dreams (the Patsy Cline movie)? Selena? Loved it. Amadeus? Sid and Nancy? Really loved it. If you throw any more at me, I'd probably love it too (with exception of The Doors- hated it). But Ian Curtis?? Oh yeah. If you're unfamiliar, you might have heard of this song.
First of all, it had plenty of music, a must for this genre. Mostly Joy Division but also their influences. The actor playing him was a pretty decent singer. At times, he sang a little more like David Bowie than Ian Curtis though that's quite forgivable. He also could've practiced a little more on Ian Curtis' signature dance moves- close but he looked a little too awkward doing it. And not awkward like Ian Curtis but as if he was questioning himself as he did it, like thinking- 'he really danced like this?' Yes, he did. The guy who played him on 24 Hour Party People should have given him lessons.
Of course it had its moments of cheese- like the sad sappy violins at one point or playing Love Will Tear Us Apart in the background after, duh, a love spat. Too obvious. But I thought the movie was good overall. Its a pretty simple story with a rather sad ending. It's also in black and white which is very appropriate and completely works with the music.
One of my friends thought it sucked- he said it was an obvious bio-pic. But many Joy Division fans aren't aware that most people don't know who Ian Curtis is, much less his story. But I liked it. Because I'm mushy. And even though Ian Curtis appears to be a lost jerk at times, I still broke down in the end. Really sad stuff. Maybe not La Bamba sad, but pretty tragic all the same. This movie gets 4 pasty faced butters.

Stephen Colbert announced on his show last night that he is entering the race for the presidency of the United States. Seriously. In his home state of South Carolina only... for now. He said he'll see how it pans out before moving on to other states. That is the most hilarious and wonderful thing I've heard in a long time. Its pretty much saying the job has become so much of a joke, why not elect a comedian? I agree, but I think he could do a better job than the current joke. He says he's running as a Democrat and a Republican, which again is hilarious.
Go here to watch the clip.

Sometimes the guys in the Justice Department should just not speak. When trying to explain how he believes it isn't going against the Voter's Rights Act and doesn't discriminate against minorites, he puts it in a rather interesting way:

Tanner explained that “primarily elderly persons” are the ones affected by such laws, but “minorities don’t become elderly the way white people do: They die first.” So anything that “disproportionately impacts the elderly, has the opposite impact on minorities,” he added. “Just the math is such as that.”

How can you argue with such a math wiz? It was to be paid for by taxing cigarettes. He says there's always the emergency room. Gee, thanks Mr. Millionaire Oil Guy who can have a government funded check-up every time you're feeling a little gassy. Of course 72% of Americans support the bill because most Americans like children to be healthy. But Mr. Bush seems to think that by including more poor children in the program that he'll be sending the wrong message- like that people without money deserve health care too. Its strange that he is so pro-democracy for other countries while he ignores the wishes of the people in his own. Well, it seems that the Senate has enough votes to override his veto but the House still has a lot of idiots who don't want to be re-elected. The cost of the increase is $35 billion for the next 5 years, the extra money the White House is asking for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is $190 billion and of course this will be added to the deficit. While I usually am very much against violence, will someone please slap him? Hard?
Update: Now even Bush recognizes how politically damaging this is for him to put the interest of insurance companies above children.

The Law and Order candidate for president, Fred Thompson is having a hard time letting go of the 80's. They could have made it just a little better if they added a parenthesis and it could read:
Vitter, Jefferson try their best to ignore scandals (but we won't let them).
This is awesome! New Orleanians are way too forgetful (and forgiving) of our corrupt politicians and need constant reminding so they won't be re-elected. And lately the Times Picayune is writing articles just to remind you that these guys suck and are hiding under a rock so that hopefully you'll forget that they suck. They are becoming my favorite place to read about squirming politicians. Although, I wish they would use their relentlessly confrontational approach to call more people out. They could definitely go further calling out District Attorney Eddie Jordon (he needs to be taken down!) And how about all those guys running for governor? The president? More, more, more!!!

Bill O'Reilly is really “nutty in the head.” This article is about how he went to a black owned restuarant in Harlem and was pleasantly surprised:
“It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun,” Mr. O’Reilly said on his nationally syndicated radio show on Sept. 19. “And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all.”

This Archie Bunker, or so called Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, is calling Kathy Griffen "worse than racist" because of the comments she made when receiving her Emmy at the awards show. And if you've ever seen her show, Life on the D-List, you know that she does anything for publicity, in this case saying "Suck it Jesus, this award is my god now!". She's got to be pissing herself with enthusiasm over being talked about on CNN in split screen interviews. He did it when Apple declined to honor his warranty because they said it had "spill damage". From anyone I know who had a problem with an Apple computer, they usually are pretty decent about fixing or replacing faulty machines. I'm thinking whatever was wrong with the guy's computer was apparent and probably his own doing. Dried up coffee stains maybe? But Apple succumbs to the guy's extortion and gives him a new computer anyway. Idiots. So there was some interesting stuff out there about New Orleans and how it stands after Katrina but you needed to go to NPR and PBS to get the best reporting. I just listened to two really interesting podcasts. I put a link to them below if you're interested:

Katrina & Recovery
New Orleans Suffers Crisis in Mental Health Care
on NPR
&

Pioneers Work to Revitalize New Orleans
on PBS

I do find it strange to call people coming to help in the recovery "pioneers". This isn't the wild west people, although you are liable to get shot if you're not careful especially in places like Central City. But "pioneers" makes it sound like they're coming to take over and create a new city when we already have a rich cultural heritage that doesn't like change. At all. Even for the better. The government bureaucracy alone makes it hell for people wanting to rebuild. All of a sudden the permitting office is making people jump through hoops and asking for things that no one ever required pre-Katrina before they are able to get started on their house. And most requirements are not hurricane related. One example is the air flow calculations for an attic some wise ass asked for in a project someone in my office is working on. I've worked in architecture for over 10 years and no one has ever required this on a residential project. Ridiculous. Especially for people who can't afford an architect, which is most people.
Then there is the NPR story about the state of mental health in the city, which is especially scary since just two weeks ago some crazy dude went into Pal's bar and slashed an innocent girl's throat. He didn't even know her. Crazy bastard. But the report makes some really interesting points as to why New Orleans is unable to treat the people who can not afford treatment, usually being the ones who need it the most.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qcqMH4IzV9k/RtdkZE6652I/AAAAAAAAAAk/wARuPIUdR8Q/s320/bush+nagin.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104659084628125538" />
Georgeykins came into town yesterday on the second anniversary of Katrina. Not that many New Orleanians were that thrilled... well except for Mayor Nagin- check out the love there. Most people I talk to around here aren't that excited about being reminded that our city is still suffering from a storm that hit two years ago. But of course it was all over the T.V. ad nauseum. I put in a movie. Too much. And of course on the same day, Georgiemuffins announced plans to ask Congress for another $50 billion for Iraq. Nice one. And what day he will "formally" ask? September 10th. What? Did he overbook for photo-ops on September 11? Well here is a website I found on Rachel Maddow's blog along with the picture above, showing our president and his delight in the bald.

So get this: The White House is now comparing the Iraq War to the Vietnam War in this truly strange new tactic to drum up support for the U.S.'s continual occupation in Iraq.

"the president will say that the lessons of Vietnam teach that the U.S. should stay in Iraq, not withdraw."
So he's saying that the reason people look back so negatively at the Vietnam War is cause we left too soon? Which would mean that 58,226 U.S. deaths was not enough for them, they wanted more. Crazies.
Another thing that is happening is that a group called Freedom Watch is conveniently putting out ads at the same time the president is making these ridiculous arguments. They are telling people to call their Congress members to tell them not to surrender. Surrender? Really? Against who exactly? Anyway I did a little googling on Freedom Watch and found that the director is Bradly A. A block of this main thoroughfare through uptown New Orleans has been closed for about four years. Four years! The Times says its over two, but I live there and know its quite a bit over two. So if you were driving from downtown on Magazine Street you have to detour adding about 4-6 blocks extra to your drive since all the streets around there are one-ways. I live on Camp, a block parrallel to Magazine and have pretty much given up on it ever being opened again. But today I read its finally freaking open!!! In butters that would be approximately 4 5/8 out of 5, which is crazy. Crazy! I would say its about 3 11/64 butters. Approximately. For starters, I was so aware of the score emotionally leading the viewer that I kept laughing when nothing would happen. I mean how long can you be suspended without anything happening? This is how it went:Bourne is walking. Da da da! Now he's crossing the street. Da da dada da! Some people are watching him. Da da da! Da da dada da! Daa daaaaaa! But for what felt like 20 minutes at a time. Just a little too much at times, mostly in the first half hour of the movie. But when something was actually happening, it was suspenseful and quite entertaining. The fight scenes were good (but seriously needed a steady cam), so were car chases and the many, many foot chases. The plot was okay but not spectacular. I would sometimes forget that there was more to the story besides the 'this guy is after this guy' plot. And of course since this is probably the last of the saga, we find out what happened to JasonBourne or who ever that guy is. Its a pretty good ending. Not 93% good. But good. Like if I was a tomato I'd be 63% fresh for the Bourne Ultimatum. Its a definite recommend for people who like the action genre. For everyone else, its okay.

I need one of these. Too bad he's a purple-fingered bonehead.

Remember when going to a scary movie was actually sometimes scary? And not just gross and angry? Well, 1408 is one of those. It gave me a chill the way Poltergeist did when I was a kid- scary and suspenseful. And not because of a beheading or impaling or something - but from not knowing what's around the corner and always keeping me on the edge of my seat. It was fun - the girl next to me had her hands over her face during most of the movie and people in the theatre kept screaming. It was great! The premise was pretty straight forward- a writer wants to stay in an allegedly haunted room that all these people died in to write a book debunking haunted hotels but Jules from Pulp Fiction tells him no one has lasted in this room for more than an hour and he doesn't want to clean up his bloody mess. He goes in anyway and horror ensues.
Sure it had some cheesy moments, but that's easily overlooked when you're just waiting for Mista-Creepy-Crazy guy to jump out and get Lloyd Dobler. And I have to say, he can carry a movie. I'd say about 85% of this movie is him freaking out to the things going on inside the room. Its him talking to himself and his little tape recorder, which is a little creepy in itself- don't know why. But I say this one deserves 4 spooky little butters out of 5. Ooooooooo.

Transformers is a fun movie to watch when you feel like leaving your brain at home and submerging yourself into the silliness that could only come from a movie premise created by Hasbro. No, I mean it- it was fun. Well it took a while before the actual fun stuff started. Before that you learn about this kid with a crush and his parents with their obsessions about lawn care and ...ho hum... well he becomes acquainted with the Transformers- the Autobots and the Decepticons and that's when the movie really begins. Lots of fight scenes. Very cool ones too- except I don't think it was really meant for the big screen. At times it was really visually hard to follow what the heck was going on with all this metal dancing around on such a large screen. I know that the there was a lot of detail in the CGI, but you couldn't really see it because everything moved so fast. Sometimes I would have to take a break from looking at the screen cause it was too much. Don't go in with a migraine. One icky thing that a fine gentleman pointed out to me was that almost all of the cars were GMC's- product placement ad nauseam. So Bumblebee which was a Beetle in the cartoon is now a Camaro. Bleck! Why don't they just gave him a nice pencil-stache and bandana and called him Ace? But anyways, its a bit of geek movie, not that I had to point that out. Robot wars always equals geeky- but its a good thing. I could talk about the characters but does anyone really care? Its robot wars! Woooo!!!! I have to give this 2 1/2 butterbots because even though it was fun at times, it really is stupid.

Why?

Here's a really sad story about a guy celebrating his first father's day as a dad when he was shot in the doorstep of his apartment and killed. I know that someone high up probably called it that once, but who's going to take you seriously if you keep comparing everything to balls? They do know that's what that means, right? Oh and who thinks the reason these things are becoming unclassified is to make the Bush administration's misconduct not look as bad as they obviously are compared to all the creepy goings-ons in the past? Me!
Here's the story:

CIA releases 'family jewels' of misconduct reports

And what's horrifying is that they show a picture of Fidel Castro below the headline. William Jefferson -- in exchange for supporting a multimillion-dollar math curriculum contract, sources close to the case said.

She fought corruption the only way a New Orleans politician can, by taking bribes.

I love these photos. If you look closely at it, its an advertisement for Blenk on a city bus, but Blenk is misspelled "Bleck". Which is especially funny to us who went there. Bleck! It was the only high school I knew of that looked like a motel. And it had this weird "mod" system which would take too long to explain but let's just say we had plenty of off time during school hours, sometimes like 3-4 hours in a day. Those were good days. Other days a person might have 20 minutes to eat lunch. Well I hate to see it close. Before it is halfway through, you're ready to jab the straw from your little White Cherry ICEE into your eyes so you don't have to keep watching the thing. That's how I felt while watching 28 Weeks Later. Maybe I had such high hopes because I kind of liked the first one- 28 Days Later (3 of 5 butters?). That one had interesting characters. It showed the means in which the uninfected might survive. You felt for the people- I can still remember how sad it was when a dad was infected because a single drop of blood got into his eye. It was compelling. This one felt more like those cheap haunted houses that people throw together for Halloween with plastic bag walls and scary stobe lights, but instead of being there- you're watching it from your seat in a movie theatre. Rahhhh!!!!! Big deal. The thing is, it has a very promising beginning. But it was as if they thought 'okay, enough of the story, let's bring on the gore!'. And that's exactly what they did. For fans of serious gore- you would probably like this a lot more than I did. Another problem was the believability of the character's actions. Too many times I thought- 'why the hell would anyone do anything so stupid!'. You can make a drinking game of it since it happens so often in this film.
Okay, so I'll give this movie 1 blood splattered butter. And it earned that one for the first 15 minutes, everything else was just kind of bad. And gross.

Spidey is back! But in the latest installment of the Spiderman saga, Spiderman is emo. And a jerk. And that's before the jumpy ooze from outer space gets on his suit and turns it black, reminding me a lot of Superman 3. So here's how it goes: Peter Parker wants to ask MJ to marry him, but is so wrapped up in his spidey-fame that he doesn't even know that MJ just lost her singing job and has to turn tricks. Okay not really- she waits tables and sings in a bar. Bleck. Then there's Harry who is still pissed off that Spidey/PP killed his old man and turns into the new golbin. Then there's some b.s. about that guy that killed PP's uncle didn't really, that it was in fact this other guy that later becomes the Sandman. Yes, a very lame stretch. Then there's Topher Grace's character wanting PP's job at the Daily Bugle who later becomes some jaguar/spiderman combo. Then there's the jumpy ooze from outer space that makes Spidey have a bad case of PMS. There are a few more subplots, but I'm tired of even thinking about it. Just too many for an action-hero movie and none of them that I really cared about. And through it all, Peter Parker was completely unlikeable. Especially when he turned into Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst. You'll see. So anyway, there are cool fight scenes here and there. And there's Topher Grace, who looks a lot like Toby Maguire. You know... except good looking. And there's a little cameo of Bruce Cambell that was funny, but all in all- to me, Spiderman 3 wasn't that good. I was ready for it to be over quite early on in the movie. The audience at the theatre I saw it in was pretty funny. They laughed at all these parts that were clearly meant not to be funny- like when PP was shaking from crying from something bad that happens. Funny crowd. Anyways, I'll give this one 2 out of 5 butters. One and a quarter for the cool fight scenes, and three quarters of a butter for Peter Parker slappin the shit out of MJ. Kidding. That's for BB from Kill Bill Vol. 2 who plays the Sandman's daughter in this movie. It just made me happy for a second to be reminded of a good movie while I was watching this mess.

This sucks. Democratic leaders have lost what little backbone they gained from the most recent elections. I was proud of them for a whole week, that they were able to pass a bill that would set a timetable for withdrawal even though they knew it would be vetoed. They managed to actually exercise this new power of majority and possibly change the course of the war. Most Americans want us out of Iraq. Most Iraqi's want us out of Iraq. The only reason I can see to keep men and women serving there, is to try to stop the violence. But much of the violence is because the U.S. is there. A catch-22. I say we leave and let them sort their country out themselves. If it gets worse, then the U.N. should step up so the Iraqis know its not for occupation that these people are there, but to protect them. If the government they have is worth keeping then their people will decide. If not, then it will be overthrown. Either way, its their country.
I agree with what Rachel Maddow said the other day, about how democrats should write a bill with provisions that the only funding available will be towards the withdrawal of the troops. If the president doesn't sign it, then the war will eventually have to end anyway. But if we're waiting for the democrats to grow a backbone, we'll be there forever.

It seems like George W. Sticking his big ole foot in his big ole mouth.
"Let me tell you something. You ought to go to Philly and you will appreciate how clean New Orleans is,".
Someone really needs to save this man from his mouth. And what does that mean anyway? At this point, New Orleans is probably the most blighted city in the country and he calls it clean? Blighted properties are not ususally clean. The new trash service has been keeping the French Quarter pretty clean but that's about it. Its like only cleaning your living room and keaving the rest a mess and then going to someone else's place to complain how their living room isn't as clean as your own. Long Bridge is going to be getting wider soon. Well if you consider 2012 soon, cause that's when it'll be completed. This bridge was completed in 1935 when there weren't as many cars around. There are two 9 foot lanes on each side with the railway in the middle. And I can't imagine driving on that bridge without fear of death. Sometimes when possible, people just drive in the middle of the two lanes. They are widening it 50 feet on each side to make it a 6 lane hwy. I wonder if we'll still feel it shaking when the train is passing. Scary stuff. I once broke down on it, I was freaking out to say the least. The person behind me was kind enough to push me until I was safely off this crazily narrow, shoulderless death trap. I wonder if they planned shoulder lanes too. Councilwoman Cynthia Morrell was stopped by a state trooper after being clocked at 100 mph and driving on the shoulder in a city vehicle with a flashing light. Funny enough, she says to her defense that she wasn't using the blue flashing light while on the shoulder. I know, whew! Then she says she thought she was Orleans Parish when she was near the Causeway exit which is clearly part of Metairie in Jefferson Parish. I'm glad she knows the city that she represents.
